A fun-filled week celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers, families, and communities!

Join us April 10-16 as we celebrate young children and complete hands-on, collaborative activities. Each day, we’ll have new themed activities for you to complete with young children in your life. Join us as we enjoy music, explore food, build together, create art, and celebrate families. Activities like this are how children learn best!

Supported By: The East Central Chapter of the Iowa Association for the Education of Young Children, ChildServe, 4C’s Community Coordinated Child Care, Johnson County Empowerment, Coralville Public Library, Iowa City Public Library, North Liberty Library, and The Iowa Children’s Museum

Work Together Wednesday

Let’s get outside and play! Visit one of the Iowa City Parks or go to F.W. Kent Park to check out the Storybook Trail and Bird Blind.

Storybook Trail – The Storybook Trail at Kent Park is back! Given the popularity of the trail throughout last year, they have added a spring season with new books on a two week rotation. First up is The Tale of a Tadpole – the timing is perfect to learn about frogs, as the wetlands along the trail are bursting with frog song!

The spring schedule is as follows (with new books typically posted around 9 AM on the first Monday of the week):
April 5 – 19: The Tale of a Tadpole
April 19 – May 3:  A Frog’s Life
May 3 – May 17: Mama Built a Little Nest
May 17 – May 31: The Thing About Bees: A Love Letter
May 31 – June 14: Begin with a Bee
A weekly book rotation will resume throughout the rest of the summer.

A note for visitors: prescribed burn season is currently underway. The CEC prairie area is already burned, but other areas within the park may be burned on upcoming days, based on weather conditions.

They believe that every child should have a chance to experience camp and have fun.

Family Friday

Live Storytime – Join our community Children’s Librarians in Coralville, Iowa City and North Liberty as we celebrate together with a special live Storytime! The Week of the Young Child is a time to be reflective of our practice and ensure that each and every child experiences the type of environment that will promote his/her early learning – at home, at child care, at school, and in the community. Please register for Storytime to receive the Zoom link. You also have the option to register for a Craft-To-Go Kit that will be fun, but not necessary, to compliment your live Storytime experience! Please make a plan to pick up the craft kit the week before this event at the library.

Storytime Videos – Let’s have more family storytime fun! Provided by Camp Have-A-Lotsa-Fun-A, join us for readings of Llama llama Loves Camping, Olive and Hope’s Adventure Under the Stars, and Pete the Cat Goes Camping.
