Your Mission: Study Planet Earth
What on Earth?! is the newest adventure in our Side Quests series, a self-guided museum mission made especially for older kids (ages 8-12) ready for an extra challenge. This challenge is sponsored by our friends at CBI Bank & Trust.
While younger siblings explore the museum’s hands-on exhibits, older kids can become Earth Researchers, helping a team of curious aliens learn more about our very unusual planet.
Our Lights Out! exhibit is home to some unique alien lifeforms, and something has gone wrong with their research. They need help from young human experts!
Kids will take on the role of an Earth Researcher and set off through the museum to complete seven challenges. During this important mission, they’ll hunt for clues, explore a world map, investigate food and culture, play games, collect field notes, and uncover some of the strange ways humans communicate, trade, and play.
This isn’t your typical scavenger hunt. Kids will need to look closely, think creatively, and use what they discover to report back to our otherworldly friends.
A Side Quest Made for Curious Older Kids
Side Quests give children ages 8 to 12 a new way to experience The Iowa Children’s Museum. They’ll explore familiar exhibits from a different perspective while solving problems, making discoveries, and taking on a mission of their own.
For families with kids of different ages, it’s also a fun way to keep older children engaged while younger siblings play nearby.
