The Iowa Children’s Museum at Bubble Ball

On very special occasions, we wear bubble wrap… like at Bubble Ball!

Bubble Ball is ChildServe‘s signature gala and one of Des Moines’ most unique events—and its proceeds are used by ChildServe to improve the health and well-being of children with special healthcare needs and help them live a great life.

Every year for Bubble Ball, local groups and individuals transform bubble wrap into spectacular runway and stationary designs based on a theme. Past Bubble Ball themes have focused on art, music, and even fairy tales. This year’s theme, “Kids, Cartoons, and Comics,” was right up our alley! So, The Iowa Children’s Museum decided to get in on the fun and support ChildServe, an organization we work often and closely with.

Our fabulously creative and crafty Director of Exhibits, Kelly, fashioned five runway masterpieces inspired by the animated television series Adventure Time. Kelly herself walked down the runway as Flame Princess. Several of our other staff members joined in, too—Education Program Coordinator, Amber, as bright yellow Jake the dog; Guest Experience Specialist, Will, as Ice King; and Director of PLAYology, Gretchen, as Princess Bubble Gum. Kelly’s husband Ken also participated as the bubble-wrap-sword-wielding Finn.
We do say so ourselves… Kelly’s bubblicious designs looked spectacular walking down the catwalk! But check them out for yourself:
