We’re already a few days into 2019 and looking forward to all the exciting things to come. But let’s take a moment to reflect on everything we did in the past year. We kicked off 2018 by welcoming our two-millionth visitor in January. In March, we officially closed up our Notion of Motion exhibit to construct a brand new exhibit funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation. A couple months later in May, we opened the brand new exhibit, Notion of Motion: Science of Skateboarding. It’s been a hit!
Throughout the year, we shared the Power of Play with many students in the Iowa City Community School District—from helping 1,070 kindergartners improve their 21st-century skills in our new KinderTales program to taking 19 Not a Box Parties to different schools in the district.
But ICCSD students aren’t the only ones who played with us this year! We hosted 217 field trips with a total of 8,311 participants, 19 camps with a total of 358 campers, and 228 birthday parties attended by a total of 2,514 kids. Through a combination of our STEM Family Free Nights, free admission days and events, and the ICM for Everyone subsidized membership program, we provided 42,568 free admissions to the museum this last year! Plus, we had 2,307 total member families.
Over the course of 2018, we shared the Power of Play with 181,230 guests!
We were also honored to be voted #1 in Family Fun through Locals Love Us and named “Non-profit of the Year” by the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce.
What year! We want to take a moment to thank everyone who made it possible: sponsors, donors, volunteers, community and educational supporters, partner organizations and associations, city of Coralville, Coral Ridge Mall, PLAYology staff, volunteer guild, board of directors, advisory board, members, visitors, and Deb Dunkhase, our executive director who is retiring soon.
Thanks for helping us inspire children to imagine, create, discover, and explore through the Power of Play!
