Older kids can solve puzzles, uncover clues, and complete self-guided adventures with our brand-new Side Quests series.
Looking for things to do this summer that will keep older kids engaged? We’re excited to introduce Side Quests, a brand-new series of self-guided adventures designed especially for older children visiting The Iowa Children’s Museum.
While younger siblings explore our hands-on exhibits, Side Quests is a scavenger hunt designed to give kids (ages 8 to 12) an extra challenge and encourage them to solve puzzles, uncover clues, complete missions, and experience the museum in a whole new way.
Side Quests are free with museum admission, and all adventurers who complete the quest will receive a small prize (while supplies last).
Our First Side Quest: The Great Chicken Caper
Kicking off the series this summer is The Great Chicken Caper, a museum-wide mystery that sends young detectives on a mission to track down three runaway chickens.
Participants will follow clues throughout the museum, crack codes, complete creative challenges, and solve the mystery before the chickens disappear for good.
Kids looking to complete this adventure can stop by the front desk and receive their special assignment. It’s the perfect blend of exploration, problem-solving, and fun for older kids seeking adventure.
This Side Quest is made possible by support from Sahan Thenuwara, REALTOR at Keller Williams Legacy Group.
A New Way to Explore the Museum
Whether you’re planning a summer road trip or just looking for something fun to do in the Iowa City area, these bonus adventures encourage older children to stay engaged while creating memorable experiences for the whole family.
The Great Chicken Caper is now available as the first installment in our new Side Quests series, with more adventures coming soon!
Ready to take on your first mission? Visit The Iowa Children’s Museum this summer and see if you can crack the case.
