Iowa Children’s Museum to Offer Free Admission for Cedar Rapids Museum of Art Members Cedar Rapids, Iowa— The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art (CRMA) is excited to announce a special offer for its members—free admission to the Iowa Children’s Museum (ICM) in Coralville through December 31, 2008!
Deb Dunkhase, Executive Director at the ICM, approached the CRMA about this offer of free admission as their way of helping local cultural organizations as they recover from the devastation of the flooding that took place in June.
“This community is truly blessed with the number of arts and culture organizations that do so much to improve quality of life for us all. The Iowa Children’s Museum wanted to find a way to help those museums affected so dramatically by the flood. We decided to support the CRMA by offering some added incentive to CRMA members to renew their membership and support of The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. Plus we’re hoping that a visit to the children’s museum will simply brighten CRMA members’ day with some serious fun!”
Members of the CRMA, who present a valid CRMA membership card along with an ID, will receive free admission to the ICM through December 31, 2008. For more information about this special offer, please contact the CRMA at 319.366.7503 or the ICM at 319.625.6255.
Visionary ‘NASA Exploration Experience’ Exhibit to be at The ICM August 13 – 15!! Featured in this special interactive exhibit is America’s plan for opening the space frontier -- including new human exploration of Earth’s moon and future voyages into the solar system beyond!
Officials hope the traveling exhibit, which is free and wheelchair-accessible, will give visitors of all ages a vivid glimpse into the nation’s ambitious future in space.
“Interactive control panels and activity station, immersive 3D imagery and audio effects will plunge visitors into a not-too-distant future on the moon,” states outreach coordinator Kirk Pierce, an exhibit spokesperson from NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.
The Iowa Children’s Museum will be featuring a NASA scientist and special interactive space activities for museum visitors to further their exploration into space during NASA’s three day stay with the children’s museum. The NASA exhibit will be open from 10am-6pm, August 13 - 15 and will be located in the Coral Ridge Mall parking lot south of the museum. $1 off ICM admission coupons will be given out to all who participate in the NASA exhibit.
Iowa Children’s Museum Extends Membership Benefits to Science Station Members The Iowa Children’s Museum in Coralville is extending membership benefits to all who are members of the Cedar Rapids Science Station, closed indefinitely due to the flood. Science Station members will be entitled to unlimited free admission for two adults and all children under age 18 in one household. The courtesy will continue through December 31, 2008.
“While our museums have different missions, we share much the same audience; families with younger children, said Children’s Museum Director Deb Dunkhase. We wanted to do something special to help another museum in need.”
“We deeply appreciate what the Iowa Children’s Museum is doing, said Science Station Director John Swanson. Until we re-open, it’s a wonderful alternative for a family outing.”
During the flood the Science Station received 7 feet of water across the three-building complex. “We are cleaned out, have cleared all inspections, and are in the process of restoring electric power, said Swanson. We’re anxious to start re-building.”
