ICM Day Camps

Get the most out of summer with the exhilarating day camps at The Iowa Children’s Museum!  Sign up early to ensure your child’s place in a unique camp experience that includes both guided activities led by our experienced museum educators, and plenty of free play within our marvelous museum exhibits.  Each camp is designed to appeal to kids of all skill levels and a wide range of ages.  Half-day and full-day options are available. 


2010 Summer Break!

Music : June 14 - June 18
Explore and enjoy music with other learners at The Iowa Children's Museum!  Learn about  different kinds of music in the world and throughout history.  Kids will be able to create their own songs and instruments and discover all new things about their favorite music!

The Museum is thrilled to have two special guest teachers for our Music Camp!  Cassye Dunkhase, professional cellist and strings teacher from Boulder, Colorado (www.psychedunkhase.com), and Andrew Knapp, professional musician and teacher from Iowa City.

Museum Adventure Camp for the Younger Set : June 21 - June 25
Calling
4 & 5 year olds who love adventure!  Join us for a week filled with fun, active learning just your size!  Get busy with art, science, and literacy activities that include ABC scavenger
hunts, giant parachute fun, and finger painting like you've never seen before!

Museum staff with training and experience with preschool age children will make this camp experience special and super fun!  Join Stephanie Ungs, Lynnitra Hurst, and Amber Morris for your child’s first summer camp experience!

Art Adventure : June 28 - July 2
Experiment with oil pastels, mosaics, watercolors, clay, and more to create masterpieces culminating in
a Family Art Exhibition on the last day of camp!

Our incredibly talented museum art educators, Kelly Moore and Amber Morris, will teach this camp experience.  Every child is sure to embrace their creative side with the tutelage of these two!


Do It Yourself : July 5 - July 9

Make, create, invent, craft, and play in this hands-on camp.  Kids will use real tools to build
toys and projects made of wood and other fun materials.  Campers will construct a pinewood derby car, learn the art of cake decorating and even star in their own comic book! This camp puts the DIY (do it yourself) spirit in full gear!

Science Sleuths : July 12 - July 16
Have a blast being a scientist as you make erupting volcanoes, slimy surprises, and build mini
rockets! Young thinkers learn how to explore and experiment by unleashing their creative problem solving skills.

Join Museum staff educators Kelly Moore and Jacque Stolz for a week of some super science!  These two will help your kids experience science, technology, engineering, and math in ways that are engaging and fun!

Sculpting : July 19 - July 23

Campers will learn the basics of sculpting with clay, wood, and paper as they create works of art that are sure to become lifelong treasures.

Take Flight : July 26 - July 30
Learn all about how planes fly, what makes a hot air balloon go up, and more!  Kids will be able to learn the basic science behind all things flight with fun hands-on activities like building their own rockets, participating
in paper plane derbies, and of course spending plenty of time in the super cool ICM flight simulators!

Drama-Rama Camp : August 2 - August 6
This is the perfect opportunity for kids to gain confidence and stage presence in this fun introduction to theatre!  The energy and imagination of young actors gets channeled through creative dramatics, theatre games and story dramas. Campers will build theatre skills and work cooperatively while learning how to express themselves!

The Museum welcomes guest teacher Dawn Clark, University of Iowa drama graduate student, together with staff member Brett Borden to guide a week filled with drama games, activities, and lessons to release the actor or actress in every child!

Who Can Attend?

All camps except Museum Adventure Camp:
Children ages 6-1
2 (must have completed kindergarten)

*Museum Adventure Camp for the Younger Set (June 21-25): Only children age 4 & 5!

What's the Schedule?

Full Day Option: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM, bring your own brown bag lunch
Half Day Option: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
     Early drop-off and late pick-up are available for $5/hour per child (8am to 5:30pm)

Class Size:    

Maximum of 30 students

How to Register:

Registrations are processed on a first come, first serve basis in the order they are received. You may register by calling Nicole Palmer at 319.625.6255 ext. 216 or emailing npalmer@theicm.org.

Cost

Full Day Camp = $210 per week
Half Day Camp = $105 per week

     - ICM members receive a 10% discount!
     - Fee includes supplies and snack.

Payment

50% of camp fee is due at registration with final payment due two weeks prior to your
summer camp. 

Camp Confirmation

You will receive a confirmation letter or email from The Iowa Children's Museum within one week of your registration.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your registration at least three weeks prior to the start of camp, we will refund your tuition less a $20 registration fee per camp.  If you cancel your registration with less than three weeks notice, no refund or credit will be given.

The ICM reserves the right to cancel a class if enrollment is too low. Any tuition paid for a camp that has to be cancelled will be refunded in full.
