DESCRIPTION:Little Makers is a hands-on camp designed for 4 and 5-year-olds to help them explore how things work. Through creative play and guided experimentation\, children build confidence\, problem-solving skills\, and independence while having a lot of fun along the way. \nLed by caring\, experienced educators\, Kinder Camp offers a safe\, nurturing environment where every child is supported as an individual. Activities are intentionally designed to meet kinders where they are\, helping them practice skills that make the transition to more structured learning settings feel natural and exciting. \nIn Little Makers\, children will explore a wide variety of art materials using unusual and imaginative tools. They’ll take things apart\, fill\, unclog\, repair\, and rebuild—developing fine motor skills\, persistence\, and pride in figuring things out on their own. \nThis camp meets June 15 – 19\, 2026\, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. SUMMARY:Summer Camp: Tech Explorers Camp
DESCRIPTION:Technology is a part of our everyday lives. While today’s children are digital natives\, there are many tech concepts they must learn as schools adopt more computer science standards. Providing a fun\, informal introduction to tech concepts is a great way to help kids build these lifelong skills! \n In our tech camps\, we aren’t just staring at screens—instead\, we focus on applying tech concepts to real-world problems. When students engage with technology at their own pace and in creative ways\, they have a safe space to fail\, try again\, build resilience\, and nurture their curiosity. \nDuring Tech Explorers Summer Camp\, we will have fun with a variety of programmable robots\, 3D printing\, and other technology basics. We carefully design these workshops for children who have completed 1st\, 2nd\, 3rd\, 4th\, or 5th grade\, combining hands-on technology and unplugged activities for a fun introduction to tech concepts. This camp also includes exhibit exploration time. \nThis camp meets June 22 – 26\, 2026\, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. DESCRIPTION:As the United States approaches its 250th birthday\, The Iowa Children’s Museum is inviting kids and families to explore community\, connection\, and civic literacy through play. \nFrom Memorial Day through the week of the Fourth of July\, “We\, the Kids” activities will introduce children to big ideas in kid-friendly\, hands-on ways. Children might design their own community using wooden blocks and imaginative materials\, create a model of the night sky while learning about our place in the world\, or discover simple ways they can help and participate in their own neighborhoods. Activities are designed to spark curiosity\, conversation\, and community-minded thinking through play. These activities build on our “Use Your VOICE Day” event\, held each year on election day\, which introduces children to the many ways they can engage with their community and make their voices heard. \nRegular “We\, the Kids” activities will take place Wednesdays from 3–5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9–11 a.m.\, leading up to the Fourth of July. \nDuring the week of the Fourth of July\, the museum will also welcome special pop-in guests on Tuesday\, Wednesday\, and Thursday\, including the Iowa City Bike Library sharing bike basics and simple repair skills\, and a local educator helping kids explore how composting and caring for the earth can strengthen communities. \n

DESCRIPTION:Come explore the beauty of nature from our indoor classroom in our Nature Explorers Camp! Along with playing together in our exhibits\, campers will be guided through a variety of nature-themed projects\, activities\, and games—like creating their own bird from paper parts or pretending to be reindeer migrating together. \nCampers will also have plenty of opportunities to explore nature up close in the classroom\, with displays featuring local fossils\, real animal bones\, live plants\, and lots of cool rocks and minerals. \nEven though we won’t be going outside during the camp\, it is guaranteed to be a wild time with plenty of outdoor-inspired fun! This camp is for children who have completed kindergarten\, 1st\, 2nd\, 3rd\, 4th\, or 5th grade\, with nature-based activities tailored to a wide range of elementary ages. \nPlease note: Campers will take part in hands-on projects and exploration using materials like sticks\, leaves\, dirt\, and rocks—so we’ll definitely be getting our hands dirty! \nThis camp meets July 6 – 10\, 2026\, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon.
