DESCRIPTION:Get moving\, have fun\, and enjoy some active play together! We’re teaming up with iStroll Iowa City for a free Caregiver + Me fitness class at The Iowa Children’s Museum. \nDesigned for caregivers of all fitness levels and abilities\, this energizing class gives grown-ups a chance to move and stretch while little ones join in on the fun. No special equipment or fitness experience is needed\, and the class is safe for pregnancy. Taking place in our Coral Cove exhibit\, children can participate alongside their grown-up or play within sight of their caregiver with museum props and activities. \nWhat to know: \n\nArrive between 9:30–9:45 AM to warm up and meet other participants. Class begins promptly at 9:45.\nBring yourself\, your child\, water\, and a stroller or baby carrier (recommended for children 6 months and younger).\nNo equipment is needed. If anything is used during the class\, it will be provided.\nThe class is FREE\, but advance registration is required (click here to sign up!). \nClass size is limited. Registration will end at 9 p.m. the day before\, or when the class is full.\nRegistration and an iStroll waiver are required for each participating caregiver. No registration is needed for children.\nFree museum access is provided during the iStroll event only. SUMMARY:Tech Trek: Fall 2026 Session Begins
DESCRIPTION:Tech Trek introduces children (grades 1-5) to the world of technology through interactive projects and imaginative play. Our program is specifically designed for elementary-aged learners to build 21st Century skills like collaboration\, communication\, and creativity. We combine hands-on technologies and unplugged activities for a fun introduction to tech concepts. \nDuring Tech Trek\, your child will have the opportunity to tinker\, create\, and problem-solve. We use programmable robots\, 3D printers\, coding games\, and more to give kids a glimpse into the exciting careers that are possible in the tech industry. With Tech Trek\, kids learn through play as they tackle educational and engaging projects. \nOne of the things that makes Tech Trek so special is that it’s completely hands-on. Kids explore the inner workings of technology and use their creativity and curiosity to come up with their own solutions to challenges. Tech Trek is also unique in that it includes time for kids to explore museum exhibits. \nSkills we explore: basic coding concepts\, program development\, circuitry\, internet safety \nTools we use and love: BeeBot programmable robots\, Lego WeDo\, Makey Makey invention kits\, Snap Circuits\, Finch Robot 2.0\, Cubelets robot blocks\, 3D printer\, CoDrone educational drones \n\nSchedule: This session is 6 weeks long and meets on Wednesday afternoons from 3:15 to 5:30 pm. To accommodate school release and travel time\, we offer a flexible drop-off period and free play in the museum between 3:15 and 4:00 before moving into project-based learning time. \nFall 2026 session meets: Oct. 14 21\, 28 Nov. 4\, 11\, 18 \nCost: $180 per session (sessions meet weekly for six weeks). Pre-registration is required. \nWho This Program is For: Children in Grades 1-5. This enrichment program is built on the use of laptops\, so children need to have some experience with a laptop. This includes being able to power it on and off\, as well as manipulate a mouse/touchpad. This program also helps build computer literacy skills\, so typing skills are not necessary! \nOther Program Details \n\nClass size is a maximum of 12 students.\nOur learning environment will include exhibits at The Iowa Children’s Museum as well as our classroom space.\nCaregivers are asked to bring a reusable water bottle for their child each day. Snacks will not be provided.\nExtended care (before 3:15 or after 5:30 PM) is not available at this time

DESCRIPTION:Get an up-close look at construction equipment\, big trucks\, emergency vehicles\, and more at our biggest outdoor event of the year! Move it! Dig it! Do it! takes place just outside the museum in the Coral Ridge Mall parking lot. \nExplore vehicles of all shapes and sizes\, meet the people who operate them\, and enjoy hands-on games and activities throughout the event. This year\, you can race RC cars with Crash’n Bash Hobbies\, do gymnastics with the Iowa Gym-Nest\, customize your own construction hat\, do some painting\, or stop by the Toddler Tonka Zone. We’ll also have beverages for sale from Travelin’ Toms and Sunshine Sips as well as treats from Kona Ice. \nOutdoor activities are FREE for everyone to enjoy. DESCRIPTION:As the United States approaches its 250th birthday\, The Iowa Children’s Museum is inviting kids and families to explore community\, connection\, and civic literacy through play. \nFrom Memorial Day through the week of the Fourth of July\, “We\, the Kids” activities will introduce children to big ideas in kid-friendly\, hands-on ways. Children might design their own community using wooden blocks and imaginative materials\, create a model of the night sky while learning about our place in the world\, or discover simple ways they can help and participate in their own neighborhoods. Activities are designed to spark curiosity\, conversation\, and community-minded thinking through play. These activities build on our “Use Your VOICE Day” event\, held each year on election day\, which introduces children to the many ways they can engage with their community and make their voices heard. \nRegular “We\, the Kids” activities will take place Wednesdays from 3–5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9–11 a.m.\, leading up to the Fourth of July. \nDuring the week of the Fourth of July\, the museum will also welcome special pop-in guests on Tuesday\, Wednesday\, and Thursday\, including the Iowa City Bike Library sharing bike basics and simple repair skills\, and a local educator helping kids explore how composting and caring for the earth can strengthen communities. \n
