Spring Break Mini Camps

March 14 – 18, 2022

Drop off your child for a spring break PLAYcation! Museum educators will provide supervised play opportunities for children ages 4 to 11 (preschool through 5th grade). Each day is catered to a different age group and set of interests. Our camps are always focused on PLAY as a way to learn, with plenty of opportunities to explore our exhibits.

Monday: Play Day

March 14, 2022  |  1-4 PM  | K-5th Grade  | $50 per child

Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to come play while we’re closed to the public! This three-hour play session allows kids to “choose their own adventure” with a variety of fun ways to play. Museum educators will provide supervised playtime in exhibits and special activities like art making stations and basic coding challenges with Bee-Bots.

Play Day is open to kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade, making it a great option for friend/sibling groups!

Extended care (before 1 p.m. or after 4 p.m.) is not available. Class size is a maximum of 24 students. Our learning environment will include exhibits as well as our classroom space.

Caregivers are asked to bring a reusable water bottle for their child. Snacks will not be provided.

Tuesday: Spy School

March 15, 2022  |  8:30-11:30 AM  |  Ages 4-5  | $50 per child

This Mini Camp is designed just for 4- and 5-year-olds! Kinder recruits will learn what it takes to be a spy through S.T.E.A.M. activities and good old-fashioned sleuthing. Activities will include clue collection, solving puzzles, alphabet and pattern searches, and spy physical training.

Extended care (before 8:30 a.m. or after 11:30 a.m.) is not available. Class size is a maximum of 12 students. Our learning environment will include exhibits as well as our classroom space.

Caregivers are asked to bring a reusable water bottle for their child. Snacks will not be provided.

Wednesday: Junior Tech Trek

March 16 & 18, 2022  |  1-4 PM  |  K-3rd Grade  | $50 per child

This Mini Camp is designed just for kids in Kindergarten through 3rd grade to provide an “unplugged” approach to exploring technology! Kids will take a hands-on look at programmable robots, 3D printing, and other technology basics. Mini Camp sessions also include exhibit exploration time.

Activities are different for Wednesday and Friday sessions. Maximize your byte-sized fun by registering for both sessions!

Extended care (before 1:00 p.m. or after 4:00 p.m.) is not available. Class size is a maximum of 12 students. Our learning environment will include exhibits as well as our classroom space.

Thursday: Art Zoo

March 17, 2022  |  8:30-11:30 AM  |  Ages 4-5  | $50 per child

This Mini Camp is designed just for 4- and 5-year-olds! Museum educators will provide a variety of hands-on art activities, games, and dramatic play including animal movement games and creating a zoo habitat. Dress for mess!

Extended care (before 8:30 a.m. or after 11:30 a.m.) is not available. Class size is a maximum of 12 students. Our learning environment will include exhibits as well as our classroom space.

Monday is a “Play Day” with exclusive play opportunities for kids 5 to 11 years old when the museum is closed to the public. Tuesday and Thursday Mini Camps are designed specifically for littles (age 4-5). Junior Tech Trek on Wednesday and Friday will offer an “unplugged” look at technology for kids in Kindergarten through 3rd grade.

  • Participants and staff will be required to wear a facial covering during all program activities.
  • Health screenings (with a temperature check) will be required for all participants and staff.
  • Social distancing will be a priority when possible
  • Sharing of materials during activities will be limited

What is a Mini Camp?

Mini Camp sessions are less structured and shorter in length than previous camps, but just as much fun!

Who can attend?

All kids are invited to attend! Programming for camps and mini camps are designed for children of different ages, so be sure to review the session information above to ensure you sign up your child for the correct session. Sibling groups are welcome!

Is extended care available?

Extended care (supervised play before or after scheduled program activities) is not available at this time.

What is the ratio of adults to children?

Our ratio of adults to children is one adult per eight children.

What health and safety precautions are you taking?

The health and safety of our participants, their families, and our staff is our highest priority. We are taking the following precautions during our drop-off programs:

  • Program capacity is limited. Some mini camp sessions take place when the museum is closed, allowing for extra precautions and social distancing.
  • Sharing materials will be limited; every participant will be provided with their own supplies to complete facilitated activities.
  • Facial coverings are required for both participants and staff.
  • Social distancing will be a priority when possible
  • Health screenings (with a temperature check) will be required for all participants and staff.
  • Everyone will engage in frequent, regular hand washing.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available in all areas and staff will monitor to ensure everyone is using it frequently.
  • High-touch areas (door handles, railings, light switches, etc.) are sanitized throughout the day and a thorough, museum-wide sanitizing of exhibit surfaces, toys, and or props is conducted at least twice per week.
  • Virus-mitigating air purifiers have been installed in our HVAC system along with other health and safety infrastructure investments.
  • We continually monitor our processes and make adjustments as needed.

What is the refund policy?

If you cancel your registration at least one week prior to the start of the program, we will refund your tuition minus a 5% credit card processing fee. If you cancel your registration with less than one week notice, no refund or credit will be given unless it is a medical emergency. If the program is cancelled by The Iowa Children’s Museum to address health and safety concerns (i.e., COVID-19 or other community health issues), your payment will be refunded in full.

The Iowa Children’s Museum reserves the right to cancel or reschedule classes if minimum enrollment (5 children) is not met. In this instance, The Iowa Children’s Museum will notify registrants of the cancellation prior to the start of the program and issue a full refund.
