Let’s Play in a New Way

We have implemented a number of new policies and procedures that are designed to protect all of us. Please take a moment to review our Culture of Caring statement and the new ways we’re playing.

Our Culture of Caring: We are committed to caring for your family and for each other. In that spirit, we are taking some simple steps as a sign of respect for others and as a way to help The ICM remain a healthy, welcoming environment for everyone. Please join us!

We Care for You:

  • Admission is limited to less than 10% of our normal capacity.
  • We have removed some props in our exhibits and items with surfaces that are difficult to clean.
  • Our staff is required to wear masks within our space.
  • The health of our staff is monitored daily through temperature checks.
  • Floor markers and additional signage helps guests navigate our space while maintaining social distance.
  • High-touch areas are sanitized multiple times throughout the day—an enhancement on our already stringent cleaning practices.
  • A thorough, museum-wide sanitizing process is carried out each day.
  • Virus-mitigating air purifiers have been installed in our HVAC system along with other health and safety infrastructure investments.
  • We continually monitor our processes in order to make adjustments as needed.

You Care for Us and Each Other:

  • Come play at The ICM only when you are healthy!
  • Purchase tickets online (fees are waived for members, but everyone must reserve a play time online).
  • Wear a face covering if you are 6 years of age or older. Children ages 3 to 5 are encouraged to wear masks, but not required.
  • Take turns in each space. In most cases, exhibits are limited to one play group at a time.
  • Use the touchless hand sanitizing stations available throughout the museum and wash your hands frequently.
  • Practice social distancing by maintaining 6 feet of separation from those outside of your play group.
  • Be patient with yourself, other guests, and our staff as we adapt to these new norms – we’re all learning together!

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. We look forward to once again offering your family a special space to play together, create memories and learn through exploration!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I purchase tickets?

All guests, including members, are asked to reserve their spaces online while we are limiting capacity. To receive your member discount (which includes free admission for members), please log into the website before checking out using the email address that is associated with your family membership. Please click here to purchase tickets for your selected play session.

What is a playgroup?

Online ticket reservations are processed by “playgroups” of up to 10 people. These are the individuals you will come into contact with during your time at The ICM. Typically this is one or two families who are choosing to have contact with each other. Exhibit capacity limits are by playgroup, so everyone in your group can play together at the same time. Please click here to purchase tickets for your selected play session.

Is The ICM limiting capacity?

Yes, the museum is limiting attendance to less than 10% of our usual capacity in order to maintain social distancing during play time.

What cleaning and sanitizing procedures are you carrying out?

We will sanitize high-touch areas (door handles, railings, light switches, etc.) throughout the day.  We also conduct a thorough, museum-wide sanitizing of exhibit surfaces, toys and other props each day.

How are you maintaining social distancing within your space?

You will notice a number of floor markers and new signage throughout the museum. These signs provide notice and reminders on desired traffic flow, playgroup capacity limits for each exhibit, social distancing, and more. Most exhibits are limited to one playgroup at a time (exceptions: Take Flight, Notion of Motion, and Coral Cove) and our overall reduced capacity will make it much easier to maintain physical distance from others.

Are you screening guests?

When purchasing tickets, guests must agree to follow all of our policies and procedures, including ONLY coming to play if they feel well. The ICM team reserves the right to ask basic screening questions regarding the health of guests and to deny entrance to any guest exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.

Another important part of gaining access to our space is wearing a face covering if you are 6 years of age or older. Our team reserves the right to deny entrance to any guest who is not wearing a mask or following our stated policies.

Are any exhibits closed?

Exhibits may occasionally close for cleaning, but no exhibits are completely closed at this time.

Are masks required?

Yes. All guests (6 years of age and older) are required to wear a face covering during their visit. We encourage children ages 3-5 to wear a mask, but are not requiring them for this age group at this time.

Please let us know at check-in if someone in your group is physically unable to wear a mask due to health or sensory needs or contact reservations@theicm.org for more information on this policy.

What benefits do members receive during this time?

All active memberships have been extended a total of four months, commensurate with the length of our public closure.

Using our online ticket reservation system, members can come play in our space at no additional charge during our normal operating hours.

Members also retain their 10% discounts for special programs, Think Tank toy store purchases, as well as half-price admission at many other children’s museums.

Members can also take advantage of a special 20% off deal for our facility rental program, MyICM, until the end of 2020. Please contact our Assistant Director, Aimee Mussman, at amussman@theicm.org for scheduling information.

Will my membership be extended?

Memberships that were active in March 2020 have been extended four months.

How can I use my Annual Pass to purchase tickets?

Go to our ticketing page and select the date and time you would like to visit. Put one admission into your cart (either adult or child, depending on the pass holder). Log in to your account using the email address associated with your annual pass.  One admission will be free when you proceed to checkout.  If there are multiple annual pass holders in your group, please log in separately for each pass holder, and check out separately to receive each free admission.  Use the Need Help Logging On? function if you do not know your username or password.  You may register additional guests at the same time as an annual pass holder and pay regular admission for those guests.

What precautions are you taking with your staff?

All ICM staff members are required to complete daily health check-ins before starting the workday. This involves a temperature check, as well as confirmation that the team member is neither experiencing symptoms associated with upper respiratory illness, nor has had any “close contact” with someone testing positive for COVID-19. All staff are required to wear masks when working on the museum floor and/or in other common areas throughout our space. We have implemented a range of other workplace health and safety protocols for our team and have a full supply of appropriate personal protective equipment on-hand for use as needed.

Are facility rentals available?

Experience our 28,000 square foot learning playground like never before through our MyICM facility rental program! With the museum’s reduced public hours, we have a unique opportunity to provide our entire space to individuals looking for a more private play experience. For a $250 flat fee, you can have the entire children’s museum to yourself (maximum capacity of 25 individuals, all museum protocols regarding face coverings, social distancing, etc. apply). Learn more here.

Are you hosting birthday parties?

Traditional birthday parties with cake, favors, and a party room are temporarily postponed. Families looking for options to celebrate their child’s birthday, however, may be interested in our “MyICM” facility rental program! Are you booking outreach events and field trips?

Our team is currently re-imagining what these programs can provide to members of our community. We are exploring both in-person and virtual options for outreach programs and field trips. Keep an eye on our website for future details or contact reservations@theicm.org for more information.

Is the elevator still available for guests to use?

Yes.  We are asking guests from only one playgroup to enter the elevator at a time.  Please wait in the newly designated area to enter the elevator.

How is The ICM helping children play and learn outside of the museum walls?

We appreciate that some friends of The ICM are not quite ready to return to our physical space. For these families, ICM2Go offers a little something for everyone! Purchase at-home Play Packs designed by our expert educators, explore the great outdoors with Nature Play, watch live sing-alongs and STEM programming with ICM PLAYologists, and more! We are continually re-imagining how we can play together. Click here to learn more.

Can I use a coupon, Family Day Pass, ACM Reciprocal Network discount, or other reduced price admission?

If you have a physical coupon, please prepay online in order to reserve your play session and present your coupon at check-in to receive a refund for the appropriate admission fee.

Discount codes can be used at checkout when reserving your tickets online.
